Dinghy

ALWAYS KEEP THE KILL SWITCH COIL WRAPPED AROUND YOUR WRIST WHEN DRIVING THE DINGHY

  • Always take your time boarding and departing the dinghy.  There are no prizes for rushing, then slipping and cracking a few ribs (it’s happened!).

  • Minimum two people in the dinghy whenever underway.

  • Always have a PFD and the “dinghy kit” on board when underway. At a minimum a dinghy kit includes a 360 degree white light (substitute with a flashlight or headlamp if a 360 light isn’t supplied with the boat), a PFD and a radio.

  • Be aware of your surroundings when the motor is being started.  It’s easy to receive or deliver an elbow to the face – don’t do that!

  • Ensure the vent is open on the fuel tank before starting the motor, close at night in case of rain.

  • Never start the dinghy in gear – always put in neutral first.

  • Hold on to dinghy handles when underway.

  • Don’t speed unnecessarily.

  • Always keep a look out for people and any obstructions in the water.

  • Do not exit the dinghy broadside to the waves if pulling up on shore. The waves can push the dinghy up onto you aggressively and knock you down or cause injury.
