Americas Cup Flotilla

This coming late summer 2024 we are organizing an incredible week of sailing in Spain for DC Sailing Community members and their guests. It promises to be one of the greatest vacations of your life! We go just as high season in the Mediterranean is winding down, which means less crowded marinas, beaches and restaurants, but still wonderfully warm temperatures!

The flotilla takes place in the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Cabrera, September 7th – September 14th, 2024. The water of the Balearics are considered some of the best cruising grounds in the world with consistent winds and warm temperatures. The islands offer a variety of longer and shorter passages, and the locals are extremely welcoming.

Participants in the flotilla hop on planes and fly to Palma on the island of Mallorca. Then after a short transfer to Portocolom we board the boats, chartered from a local boutique charter operator offering a high standard of boats and service.

In the mornings we raise our anchors or cast off our dock lines, hoist the sails and head off to a new destination. Then we spend the afternoon blissfully relaxing... sunbathing, snorkeling, visiting a beach, diving, exploring the anchorage, reading a book - there are lots of options! During the evenings crews may cook dinner aboard or eat ashore, and the flotilla gathers for social events. You will meet lots of fun people, sail and swim every day and have an incredible voyage of discovery. Every boat will fly a burgee with the fun team name the skipper and crew pick for their boat.

Following a week under sail we swap the ocean for land as we head to Barcelona to ramp up the thrills with a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to the fastest racing yachts on planet earth, the pinnacle of yacht racing… the 37th America’s Cup. We’ll mix race days with sightseeing days and enjoy all the local flavors on offer.

Prior to the trip we will arrange a meeting for crews to meet and share in the excitement and anticipation of the adventure to come.

Last updated 03/31/2024. There are no restrictions related to Covid-19 for entering Spain or returning to the United States. You do not need to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19. However we ask that all flotilla participants take sensible precautions to avoid exposure to Covid-19 during the weeks leading up to the flotilla. You are strongly encouraged to stay up-to-date with new vaccines/boosters as they become available.

If you exhibit any symptoms of Covid-19 or other contagious infection immediately prior to your scheduled travel date please do not travel. You are putting the entire flotilla fleet at risk if you travel while sick. You are advised to take out comprehensive travel insurance to cover any circumstances that may result in you not traveling to participate in the flotilla. DC Sailing Community does not provide or recommend travel insurance.
