Provisioning
Generally each boat will provision for all breakfasts, most lunches and three dinners to be prepared and eaten on board – refer to the itinerary for the planned onshore schedule.
This is not a hard and fast rule, you’ll find on occasion that you might grab an extra lunch or dinner ashore
Your skipper will work on a provisioning list with you. Porto Colom has two large supermarkets about 1.5km from the marina:
Eroski Center carries all the staples. The store is open on Saturdays from 8.30am to 9pm, and opens again at 9am on Sunday.
Close to the Eroski Center is the Hiper Centro, open 8am to 9pm on Saurdays and at 8.30am on Sundays.
The cashiers at both supermarkets will be happy to call you a taxi to transport groceries to the marina, costing about 5 Euros.
There is the possibility to order some provisions in advance from a local supermarket just opposite the marina. The service has no extra cost and you can use this provisioning list. We will facilitate passing on provisioning lists to the store if you wish to use this service.
Supermercado Carnicería Mari Carmen is close to the marina, carrying a good selection of fresh produce and baked goods, as well as a good wine selection. As of 3/31/24 they are temporarily closed. Check back here for update regarding their re-opening.
Leftover non-perishables will be gladly taken off your hands by a neighboring boat that is departing as you arrive back to base, or by the dock hands and boat cleaning staff at the marina. It’s a great way to tip them for their amazing work!
Leftover drinks will also be gladly accepted by the marina staff. You will work out with your skipper an appropriate level of alcohol for the week depending on everybody’s preference for wine, beer, spirits, mixers and soft drinks.
You may bring small items that will contribute to cooking tasty meals, such as specific dried herbs, oils, etc. – discuss with your crew mates and skipper when agreeing on provisions. Remember, any items you bring will need to be small and unopened. Fruits and vegetables are not permitted to be brought into Spain from outside the European Union.
Make sure you let your skipper know of any food allergies or dietary needs.
Feel free to add or purchase separately any items that you specifically need or will make the week more enjoyable for you.
Duty free is a good way to grab a few bottles of any drinks you can’t find on provisioning lists.
