Mosquitoes and Noseeums
“Mozzies” are prevalent in warm, humid climates, particularly during late afternoon and into the evening. When walking on the beaches or in grass ashore, sandflies (or ‘noseeums’) can be particularly irritating.
Generally only an issue once onshore, no problems while on the boats.
Zika, Dengue Fever and Chikungunya can be contracted through mozzie bites.
There is no malaria risk in Spain.
You are the best judge of your susceptibility to bug bites. Those of you who seem to be a tasty treat for the little buggers should plan accordingly.
Wear long, thin sleeves and pants if possible.
Pack a suitable anti-mosquito spray or lotion. Higher strengths of Deet and Picaridin are particularly effective, and some brands offer a Permethrin solution to wash or spray your clothes with prior to the trip, which offers excellent protection.
